Congratulations are in order for Steve Roadcap, who managed the BlueClaws in 2007 and 2008 as last night he picked up his 1,000th career managerial victory as Reading beat Connecticut 2-1.

“I knew I was close at the start of the season,” Roadcap said. “But I didn’t really know how close until [Jason] Anderson gave me the game ball [after the 999th win Monday]. The players all knew about it, so that’s how I found out.”

He got help last night from two former BlueClaws: Antonio Bastardo, who threw 5.1 innings for the win, and Sergio Escalona, who got the save.

Roadcap went 69-65 with the BlueClaws in 2007 and an SAL-Northern Division best 80-60 before moving up to Reading for 2009.
