ClawCast: Jim Murphy
Sat down with BlueClaws first baseman Jim Murphy in advance of the upcoming BlueClaws post-season next week (click here to listen)…The interview took place before the game on Friday night, in which he went 4-4 with a walk…Murph, as of now, has five RBI doubles in his last four games! Some snippets…
- How he feels at the plate: “Feel pretty good…I had a rough stretch there at the end of July and into early August, but I’ve been swinging the bat a lot better. Average hasn’t gone up but I’m having overall better at bats and it’s starting to show.”
- Working on with Greg Legg: “Consistent balance position. When I’m struggling I lunge a lot and don’t wait. So I want to get a solid base before starting my swing.”
- First base vs DH: “I prefer playing first…I stay more involved in the game…This prevents you from over-thinking.”
- His college teammate Matt Way: “I obviously had no idea where he was going in the draft. It’s pretty cool being able to play with Way again. He’s a good pitcher and a good buddy.”
- On Way: “If you’re left-handed with a change-up in this league, you have a chance to be real good.”
- Way hit him: “Our rule in college was stand in there and wear it no matter what. So he would come inside. It’s probably why I get hit with so many pitches now. It’s ingrained in me.”
- The playoffs: “I’ve never had a playoff type atmosphere, never done it in college. I’m looking forward to it.”
