ClawCast: Travis d’Arnaud
Had a chance to sit down with BlueClaws catcher Travis d’Arnaud for a ClawCast (listen here)…d’Arnaud is hitting .302 in the second half (17 for his last 39) after a hitting .207 in the first half, and is peaking at the right time heading into the BlueClaws post-season. Some snippets from d’Arnaud:
- On his improved second half: “Over the past two weeks, I haven’t tried to hit home runs every swing, and tried to stay within myself, concentrating more on each at bat.”
- Working on over last few weeks: “I try not to overthink, just see the ball and hit the ball.”
- Can you feel when you’re in a groove? “Yes defiately. Past few days I’ve felt a lot more comfortable and focused. A lot of it has to do with breathing with me. When I take deep breaths I can focus more.”
- Playoffs: “Everyone’s been talking about the playoffs. All of us, of course, want to win. Each game, big game.”
On the three playoff starters:
- Matthew Way: “He definately concentrates a lot more, going through the same routine every pitch. His best pitch is the fastball/change-up combination. He controls every pitch and we’re on the same page…He’s very accurate and it makes him easy to catch.”
- Trevor May: “He has an explosive fastball that jumps out of his hand…Effectively wild, I think that definately exists…It scares the hitter too.”
- Jesus Sanchez: “He’s the most improved player on the team by far. Last year I was catching with him. Last year, I was kind of depressed I was in extended but I can see why, his work ethic is unreal.”
