Ex-Claw Ruiz Hits Second Big League Homer

Randy Ruiz, a BlueClaw in 2004, hit his second big league home run last night for the Blue Jays, and it came at Yankee Stadium, just minutes from where the 31-year old journeyman grew up. He hit is first home run last season while with Minnesota.

Ruiz got the call after Toronto put OF Alex Rios on waivers and got to go home.

“I ate some good rice and beans, got me a nice haircut and saw the family and then I came here,” Ruiz said.

He hit .288-17-91 with the BlueClaws in 2004 and has bounced around between the Reds, Orioles, Royals, Phillies, Giants, Pirates, and Twins, with whom he made his big league debut last year. Ruiz joined the Blue Jays in the offseason and hit .320-25-106 with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Congrats to Randy and good luck!

UPDATE: He hit another today, that’s two this week and three for the career.
