The Left Way…Matthew Way, a lefty, makes his first start with Lakewood after going 2-2, 1.71 with Williamsport. He was a 5th round pick this year out of Washington State University.
Not Scoring…The BlueClaws have scored just 16 runs in their last five games and are batting .187 over that stretch. They are hitting .214 over their last ten games with just 36 runs in those games.
5:42: Beautiful night, and an important one for those looking for the BlueClaws baseball cards which will be given out tonight.
7:40: So far so good for Way…7 up and 6 down…1-0 on a Gose triple/Hanzawa groundout.
8:02: 2 on none out none in…d’Arnaud flies out, Murphy and Hamilton strike out…However, Gose ties Chris Roberson’s record with with his 59th stolen base…still 1-0.
8:11: Lakewood’s played well defensively all year. Not tonight. Way makes an error, Hanzawa an error on a would-be DP, mix in an RBI double for Donnie Webb and it’s 2-1 Lake County.
8:52: The BlueClaws added a run, as to have the Captains…its 3-2 LKO.
9:19: Boy the BlueClaws have wasted opportunities today…Leaving runners on in every inning except the sixth. Way finishes his outing, seven strong. Still 3-2.
9:30: Now 4-2 as Ballestas allows a run…Matthew Way: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 Ks.
9:45: Last licks coming up…down 4-2.
10:15: Game over…Gose picked up SB #60 and Lakewood got a run in the 9th, but d’Arnaud struck out with runners at 2nd and 3rd to end it…4-3 Lake County.
