Game 112: BlueClaws (64-47) vs Savannah (55-57)

Welcome back to Grayson Stadium in Savannah…Lakewood picked up a series-opening 3-0 win last night, and we’re getting ready for game two of the series…game notes hereaudio (at 6:50).

LWD: RHP Heitor Correa (7-5, 3.80)
SAV: RHP Kyle Allen (7-6, 3.99)

Only One…Travis d’Arnaud has four of the BlueClaws nine hits over their last two games.

Welcome back…Harold Garcia was activated before today’s game. He had been on the DL since last Sunday (finger). Garcia is not in the lineup tonight, but will likely be back at 2nd base tomorrow.

Sort of tied…The BlueClaws are percentage points ahead of Kannapolis in the overall SAL-North standings, and in a virtual tie for first place. The BlueClaws have been in first (overall) since taking over on May 11th.

6:01: Hot again…94 degrees, should be no problem for the Brazilian Correa.

7:13: Claws go 1-2-3, now it’s raining, but barely cloudy…nice. Insigificant rain.

7:24: Rain delay…Savannah has 1st/3rd w/ 2 out in the first, and a 2-2 count on 5-hitter Josh Satin.

7:49: Tarp off the field…we’re a few minutes away.

7:58: Underway…0-0 to the 2nd…Mattair two great plays defensively to end it (one dive on a popup and another charging a grounder).

8:18: 1-0 Savannah…infield single and a Baltimore-chop lead to the run.

8:28: Still 1-0…Jesus Villegas robbed of an RBI single by LeBlanc in RF…bottom 3.

9:11: The BlueClaws had a great chance to take the lead there…Myers an RBI triple and Gose walked w/ one out, but Gose got picked off for out #2 and Villegas flew out to center to end the inning…instead of a lead, it’s 1-1 to the home 5th.

9:37: 1 run, wild pitch, no hits…easy game…2-1 Lakewood to the home 6th…Roth in.

9:55: Ugh…Roth gives up a 2-run double to a guy who was 11-73, then Hamilton makes an error allowing the next run to score…4-2.

10:33: De los Santos…a 2-run single…5-4 Lakewood to the 8th…a wild back/forth type of game here in the Georgia heat…3 lead changes so far and Lakewood answered Savannah’s 3 w/ 3 of their own.

10:50: Still going…3 more for Lakewood, the big hit to Jesus Villegas, a 2-run double…McConnell stays in the game and it’s 8-4.

11:20: And we’re done…final was 8-4 in 3:33…McConnell three innings for his first save of the year. See you tomorrow.
