Welcome back to FirstEnergy Park for today’s game between the BlueClaws and West Virginia Power. The BlueClaws had a tough 4-3 loss last night, where they had two players thrown out on the bases in the ninth inning.

Welcome…To JC Romero…The Phillies LHP will pitch today for the BlueClaws as part of his rehab assignment. He has allowed one run over four innings thus far, three innings with Lehigh Valley and one with Reading. He’s eligible to be activated in the 51st game, June 3rd at San Diego.

LWD- RHP Jon Velasquez (5-2)
WVA- Gabriel Alvarado (2-2)

The BlueClaws are tied atop the SAL North with Delmarva. The Shorebirds have won seven in a row and Lakewood has lost four of their last six.

Game notesAudio…Rest below the fold

10:29: We took the tarp off the field this morning at 8:30 and the radar is supposed to be clear for the rest of the day. We should be good.

10:30: Romero will come on in relief today for the BlueClaws, depending on how long Velasquez lasts.

10:50: It will be Romero right after Velasquez…JV has allowed 22 runs over his last 24.2 innings.

11:00: JC Romero on the pre-game today…we’ll get it up on the podcast later on.

11:08: 1-2-3 and a good start to Velasquez.

11:28: Lakewood gets a run, a base hit for Travis Mattiar, but they leave ‘em loaded…Gose steals his 27th base on a day when they are giving out oversized Anthony Gose baseball cards.

11:51: Run without a hit. 3 walks and a hit batsman for Lakewood…Valle in for Susdorf (hit on head with pitch), and Valle drove in a run with a bases loaded walk…2-0 Lakewood.

12:09: Mattair was the third batter hit by a pitch and then the BlueClaws followed with two hits and a sac fly to score two runs and take a 4-0 lead to the fourth.

12:28: Long inning for Jon Velasquez as he walks three, allows two runs and three runs to make it a 4-3 ballgame. The 39 pitches in the inning equal his amount for the first three innings combined.

12:35: Jim Murphy hits a triple off the wall in left-center with two outs but is left at third base…still 4-3 Claws.

12:45: Strange play…Korby Mintken in foul territory almost runs over a bullpen pitcher, who impedes him from making a catch. Doesn’t matter, bottom 5.

1:00: Romero’s debut as a BlueClaw is a good one so far as he works a quick 1-2-3 inning including two strikeouts. Still 4-3 as we go to the bottom of the sixth.

1:08: Easy inning for Ortiz, as the BlueClaws go down in order…Same score top 7…Romero on to pitch.

1:15: Quick day for Romero, Six up, six down with 2 Ks.

1:21: BJR coming in for the 8th.

1:29: BJR gets through the inning with the help of a great play by SS Troy Hanzawa ranging a long way up the middle to rob Chase d’Arnaud. Still 4-3 to the bottom of the 8th.

1:48: Game over…a six out save for BJ Rosenberg…4-3 Lakewood…box score here.
