Game 59: BlueClaws (34-24) at Lake County (26-31)

Welcome to Classic Park in Eastlake, OH, for tonight’s game between the BlueClaws and Captains. Lakewood has a 1.5 game lead in the SAL Northern Division on Delmarva, tonight at Hagerstown. Lakewood is 3-2 against Lake County this year.

First Place Notes…The BlueClaws largest lead has been 3.5 games, entering play on June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Delmarva cut it to 0.5 through Wednesday, but with Lakewood’s win last night (and DEL’s loss here), the lead is back at 1.5.

Offensive Struggles…Lakewood has scored just 19 runs in their last seven games (or 2.96 per) if you extrapolate over nine innings…They are 12-61 with runners in scoring position in that stretch.

6:35: Not a cloud in sight…and it’s supposed to be that way all weekend. Low 70s.

7:06: 1-0…Gose triple, d’Arnaud SAC fly…good start…Jesus Sanchez on the hill.

7:11: 1-2-3 w/ 2 Ks for Jesus Sanchez in the first. Great start.

7:36: Lakewood got Garcia on to lead off the 3rd but he got picked off, going on the lefty’s first move…bottom 3, still 1-0.

7:57: Sanchez another 1-2-3 inning…D’Arby Myers missed an RBI double by about 3 inches in the top of the 4th…well pitched game at 1-1 moving to the 5th.

8:08: Two rockets…one a double with 2 outs by Chris Nash, but the next caught by Gose in center…inning over.

8:25: Lakewood scores an unearned run on a wild pitch…BlueClaws up 2-0 to the bottom of the 6th.

8:43: Now 4-0..Garcia rockets an RBI triple and d’Arnaud an RBI single…4-0 Lakewood. Sanchez still in there but Santo Hernandez warming up in the pen.

9:01: Sanchez puts two on and comes out…Santo allows one to score (infield 1b) but gets through in good shape…Claws up 4-1 as we go to the 8th.

9:18: Santo puts 2nd and 3rd, none out…ground ball to the mound…strike out…ground ball to the pitcher…4-1 to the 9th…the last one was a bare-handed pickup near the 3b line by Santo, great play.

9:35: Rob Roth faces two…walks two…Here’s BJ…5-1 in the bottom of the 9th.

9:54: Game over…BJ strikes out the final three for the save (after allowing a 1b)…5-2 win…box here.
