Game 73: BlueClaws (44-28) vs Delmarva (38-35)

Welcome back to FirstEnergy Park for the rubber game of a five-game series between the BlueClaws and Shorebirds, after Delmarva won yesterday 7-5. Click here for tonight’s game notes. Audio here.

Welcome Back to the Rotation…That’s the sign in Justin De Fratus’ locker. He makes his first start of the year tonight after spending an All-Star half as a reliever.

Who’s Hot…Anthony Gose is 6 for his last 7…Travis d’Arnaud is 14-37 since a 26-157 stretch.

LWD: RHP Justin De Fratus (2-0, 1.58)
DEL: RHP Oliver Drake (3-4, 2.97)

7:17: Beneath loud giveaway whistles, Justin De Fratus pitches into and out of trouble in the first…23 pitches (of 50-55).

8:09: De Fratus struggles a bit in his starting debut, 3 runs on six hits, but errors and misplayed balls as well as bloop singles played a role. The BlueClaws strike back with a run after Travis d’Arnaud got hit, Travis Mattair brings him home with a single.

8:34: Hopefully plate umpire Blake Davis is OK…he got on the head, we think, with the head of a broken bat and was down on the ground for a few minutes….4-1 Delmarva in the 5th.

8:43: Could players ump tonight?

8:53: Umps switch…Blake Davis stays in the game on the bases and Jason Hutchings will call balls/strikes the rest of the way…Still 4-1 Delmarva…bottom 5 when we resume.

9:03: A run in the Asbury Park Press fifth inning…an RBI single from Harold Garcia…now 4-2 to the 6th.

9:26: Ouch…an 8-run inning for Delmarva…six off Rob Roth, two off Ryan Bergh…now 12-2 Shorebirds…8 runs, 7 hits, 2 errors the tally. The two big hits: two run single by Joe Mahoney and a two run double by Tyler Kolodny (both off Bergh)…to the bottom of the 6th.

10:11: Now 13-4…Lakewood’s 8th two-game losing streak of the year…they are 7-0 afterwards, so that bodes well for tomorrow…Jared Simon in.

12:18: Final was 13-9…Lakewood did score 5 in the 9th, but put this one behind you and move to tomorrow.

  1. Mike M Says:

Any word on how the Ump is doing?

  2. Greg Says:

Mike, he is OK. The umps just switched positions for the rest of the game after the injury.
