Game 97: BlueClaws (58-38) at Asheville (42-54)

Welcome back to McCormick Field in Asheville for the finale of this four-game series. The BlueClaws have won the first three and are 20-games over .500 for the first time this year…Game notesAudio (at 6:50)

LWD: RHP Heitor Correa (7-3, 3.65)
ASH: RHP Juan Nicasio (4-1, 1.71)

They’re Hitting…Lakewood has 38 hits in the series and is batting .339 here in Asheville. We’ll have Greg Legg on the pre-game show tonight.

Gose Closing In…Anthony Gose is up to 56 stolen bases, three behind Chris Roberson for the team record, set in 2003

5:39: It rained and the tarp was on the field…but it’s coming off now. We’ll be fine.

6:40: Weather turned out just perfect…Correa won last time out for his 7th of the year, tied for 2nd on the team w/ Rosenberg and Sanchez. Rest below the fold…

6:42: Kyle Lafrenz again back behind the plate…d’Arnaud and his 15-game hitting streak will again DH.

7:25:  Juan Nicasio is rolling along with two easy 1-2-3 innings and Heitor Correa is struggling…Allowed two runs…only one deserved, as Gose and Myers let a ball fall between them and its an early lead for the Tourists…their first of the series.

7:44: The defense letting Correa down again as Murphy makes an error…Correa isnt helping himself out that much either…now 4-0…sweep looks less likely. Tourists add another…5-0….and another….6-0…Back-to-back infield hits too

8:06:  Gose scores and the ball does not leave the infield. Walk, wild pitch, ground out, wild pitch…6-1

8:31:  Nicasio has been dominant and it does not look like the BlueClaws have the fire-power tonight to catch the Tourists…Still 6-1..top 6.

8:54: The BlueClaws get runners on 2nd and 3rd, 0 outs…an RBI-groundout by Myers and a single by Kyle Lafrenz makes it 6-3 top 7.

9:19:  On comes Rob Roth and he allows the two runs the BlueClaws gained uin the top half…8-3.

9:33: Jared Simon comes in and allows another…on to the 9th…Last licks.

9:38:  Asheville wins 9-3…Avoid the sweep…Time to re-group for a four-game series against Greenville (Red Sox). On of the shortest bus trips of the year here. Enjoy your Saturday night, see you tomorrow at 7 for Trevor May vs Fabian Washington.
