Game One Wrap

Quick thoughts on game one of the series with Kannapolis, won by Lakewood 4-2 last night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

  • Matt Way was excellent, again. “Fastballs in, changeups, sliders. I threw just about everything tonight. It worked out well for me,” he said.
  • Anthony Gose was 1-25 coming into last night’s game. No big deal. He went 3-5.
  • The middle of the lineup keeps hitting. Travis d’Arnaud added two more hits, but the top seven in the lineup went 12-29. That will work every night.
  • Left 13 on base and went 2-11 with runners in scoring position. That will have to improve.
  • Austin Hyatt, an easy 1-2-3 8th inning. Between Hyatt and Santo Hernandez, Lakewood has the last nine outs of any game locked down (they got six out of the pen last night).
  • Biggest at bat of the game: Harold Garcia’s 8th inning SAC fly: he had foul off 3 different 0-2 pitches before the fly ball, making it 4-1 Lakewood. That run was huge as Hernandez labored in the 9th.
