Welcome to NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC for the second of a four-game series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The teams split a four-game series at FirstEnergy Park last week.
LAK: RHP Jesus Sanchez (1-4)
GBO: RHP Kyle Kaminska (4-3)
Strong Bullpen…The BlueClaws pen has allowed one run in their last 19 innings and 11 in their last 59.1 innings pitched. The pen ERA is as low as its been all year at 2.74.
Largest Lead…The 2.5 game lead for the BlueClaws is the largest of the season. They were also 2.5 games up on May 21st and the ‘Claws have been in first place since May 18th.
4:20: That’s a start, 4 in the first…2 steals for Gose, RBIs for Murphy, Mattair, and Collier…4-0 Lakewood.
4:26: 1-2-3 first for Sanchez…just to finish off the top…Gose was hit by pitch, stole 2nd and 3rd, d’Arnaud walked before RBIs for Murphy on a single, Mattair on a single and Collier on a double. The last run scored with two outs when Hanzawa reached on an E5, so three of those were earned. All three hitters took the ball the other way. Gose now with 33 steals on the season.
4:45: Lakewood leaves ‘em at 2nd and 3rd…Collier scorched a liner with one out that would have been a 2-run single if it was 12 inches to the left…still 4-0.
4:58: Greensboro gets one back, set up by a double to deep right by Daniel Pertusati, a ball Collier came close to catching, perhaps he should have got there, tough play, it ticked right off the edge of his glove…4-1 to the 4th.
5:10: Harold Garcia…bomb…off the scoreboard in right field…he was 7-35 before his 5th homer of the season…5-1 Lakewood.
5:45: Back to being the cardiac Claws, Sanchez normally keeps the runs scored against him to one big inning, but a one-run inning and a two-run bottom of the fifth makes it a 5-3 game…right where the BlueClaws like it? Maybe…Justin De Fratus warming…likely his game in the sixth, and maybe a few innings beyond.
6:06: Some breathing room for the ‘pen and the BlueClaws as Travis d’Arnaud slaps his second HR in as many days…a two-run blast, making it 7-3.
6:24: Gose by the way has four steals today and the BlueClaws have stolen five. 7-3 at the stretch. De Fratus on for his 2nd inning of relief…Sanchez: 5 IP, 3 R/ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
6:33: De Fratus two shuout…Diekman throwing…could be the new guy in the 8th.
6:46: Diekman coming in…Lakewood blanked in the 8th…6 outs away from 5 wins in a row.
6:55: Oy…Diekman allows four runs in four batters including back-to-back HRs to tie the game…7-up and BJ Rosenberg coming in.
7:11: Uh oh…could be the first real bad loss for the BlueClaws…GBO scores 5 in the inning, four off Diekman who does not record an out, and the go-ahead run off of Rosenberg…8-7 to the 9th.
