Games 70 and 71: BlueClaws vs Delmarva

Let’s try this again from last night. The plan is to keep the one blog up for both games. RHP Freddy Ballestas and LHP Cole McCurry will be the pitchers in game one. RHP Heitor Correa and RHP Brent Allar in game two.

Situation…0-0, bottom of the 3rd…Vladimir De Los Santos will bat for Lakewood, with no count and nobody on base.

Here is the play by play from last night.

Rest below the fold…Enjoy.

5:43: Getting set to go in about 20 minutes on Firefighter Night.

5:44: We’re going to be in some kind of a rain delay here. It’s starting to rain and they’re putting the tarp on the field.

6:41: We start at 7:05.

7:09: Underway…McCurry retires the BlueClaws in order in the bottom of the 3rd.

7:33: Gose steals second but it gunned out stealing third…that’s his 9th time caught this year, now with 45 stolen bases. 0-0 to the 5th.

8:06: Good job by Freddy Ballestas tonight…four shutout so far, in the 7th he gets out of runner on 3rd / nobody out. Well done…One other note…Lakewood is still without a hit…0-0 at the stretch.

8:26: Ballestas…8 Ks over 5 shutout innings. 0-0 to the bottom of the 8th…But Lakewood does have a hit. A d’Arnaud single in the 7th.

8:42: Hanzawa can’t get a squeeze down on a low curveball…Mattair caught between 3rd and home for the 2nd out of the inning…0-0 to the 9th…here’s BJ Rosenberg.

9:15: GAME WINNING HIT…Travis d’Arnaud hits one deep to right that cant be caught by Ron Welty, Harold Garcia scores..1-0 BlueClaws…Game two at 9:30

10:13: Inning three of game number two…0-0

11:17: Sorry for the lack of blog updates…3-2 Lakewood…9 in a row retired by Correa, entering the bottom of the 6th. Delmarva has four errors and catcher Brendan Monaghan has three passed balls, two have scored runs, including Gose to put Lakewood in front in the 5th.

11:46: Game over, complete game for Correa, nicely done, his 5th win…Lakewood back to 17 games over.

[...] missed this game. We took the kids to FirstEnergy Park this evening to see the Lakewood BlueClaws and Delmarva Shorebirds play some baseball. I did get to hear the end of the recap on WCBS 880 on the way home. Sounds like A.J. Burnett [...]

Hey – why was the game stopped after 7 innings? Not a single article out there mentions the reason.

    NoPepperGames –

Since there were two games played on the day, the second game was treated as the back end of a doubleheader, by rule, seven innings.
