Phillies Staff Still in Flux
Just five days before their first-round playoff series with the Rockies, the Phillies have some issues within their pitching staff, all starting with their bullpen.
As Todd Zolecki reports here, JC Romero could miss the postseason after injuring his left forearm.
“I haven’t been counting on him (to pitch in the playoffs),” Charlie Manuel said of Romero. “I’ve told you guys before, if you’re not healthy or you’re not well … I’ve got to go with the guys I know who are ready to go and ready to pitch.”
Chan-Ho Park is also injured, as is Jamie Moyer. Without Romero, Manuel could be forced to use JA Happ in the pen as a late-inning lefty. Scott Eyre is just recovering from injury, as are righties Brett Myers and Clay Condrey.
Happ in the pen is something that Manuel discussed (see Andy Martino in the Inquirer here), where Manuel noted the success Happ had in his lone start against the Rockies (a complete game shutout).
Probably Happ or Pedro Martinez for the last spot in the rotation.
