Quick First-Half Thoughts…

Some quick-hitters…

1) The funniest moment of the post-game madness was Harold Garcia, leaning over a railing watching his teammates horse around in the outfield, saying “Guys, what are you doing? We have a game tomorrow.”

2) It was fitting that the clincher happened in Hagerstown…Back on April 16th, Sebastian Valle doubled with two outs in the ninth inning to bring home two runs and tie the game, a game Lakewood would go onto win after trailing 5-0. It would be the second of five wins for Lakewood in games they trailed by five runs, and first of five wins that they trailed entering their final at bat.

3) Also fitting that Steve Susdorf had four hits last night. He has been exactly what the staff had hoped when he came up on Memorial Day: a strong left-handed batter in the middle of the lineup to take some of the RBI burden off of Jim Murphy and Travis Mattair. Greg Legg said he’s not sure if Lakewood is going to the playoffs without Susdorf. Certainly, they wouldn’t have clinched with four games to go.
