Still Alive

They certainly made you sweat it out, as Derek Jeter stepped in as the tying run in the 9th inning, and Mark Teixeira did the same two minutes later, but there will be a game six in the 2009 World Series.

Back in New York, where the Yankees are something like 37-9 since the All-Star break, but will have win a game with a starter on three-days rest. One way or another.

12-36. That’s the post-season record (since 1999) of teams who start someone on three-days rest against an opposing starter on full rest.

To Cliff Lee for a quick moment. Charlie Manuel put it well:

“They used to say Spahn and Sain and pray for rain,” Manuel said. “We have an off day and maybe it will rain the next day. I’ll talk to him about what he thinks, if he can pitch at all.”

So it’s onto game six for the Phillies. Pedro. Pettitte. Is it 2004 all over again? Stay tuned.
