Ugly Saturday

Quick hitters on the BlueClaws 13-7 loss on Saturday to Delmarva…

  • The seven earned runs Ryan Bergh allowed (of eight total) were only five more than he allowed all of last year with the GCL Phillies (in 28.2 innings).
  • The nine runs scored by Delmarva in the 7th inning was the most ever against the BlueClaws in one inning (previous high was eight set earlier this year by Delmarva).
  • Lakewood made three erros, could have easily been five if D’Arby Myers dropping a fly ball on the run or Korby Mintken, who couldn’t come up w/ a hot shot grounder, had been charged with errors.
  • The first nine hitters reached base and the first eight all scored for Delmarva in the inning.
  • Brian Gump pitched the 8th inning, a 1-2-3 frame. He said he last pitched in the spring for UC-Santa Barbara in a scrimmage game when his team ran out of pitchers. He is the first (hopefully last) position player to pitch for the BlueClaws in a game this season.
