“We Might Be Down, But We’re Still Breathing”
That came from Charlie Manuel after the game last night, a simple statement of fact to let everyone know that the Yankees are still going to have to beat the Phillies one more time. It’s a great line from Manuel who took some heat last night. Some thoughts on the game…
- Can’t blame Manuel for not pitching Cliff Lee on three-days rest. The Phils were in a great position once Feliz tied the game, since Mariano Rivera was not coming in unless the Yankees took the lead.
- Manuel said that it’s either the pitcher or catcher that covers 3rd on Damon’s steal. But Carlos Ruiz was on one knee 90 feet away. Lidge was the only player with a chance to get there.
- The Phillies wasted a chance in the 5th when Rollins and Victorino both reached to start the inning.
- If Bud Selig is serious about the flow of the game, instant replay isn’t his problem. It’s too many visits to the pitcher’s mound by catchers, who are not subject to a maximum like coaches are.
