Your 2009 Lakewood BlueClaws

Pitchers (12)

  • Ryan Arial, LHP – Played in Winnipeg for the last two seasons in the Northern League and struck out 125 batters over 113 inings.
  • Ryan Bergh, RHP – Shined with the GCL Phillies last year, went 3-1 with a 0.64 ERA in 28.1 innings with 26 strikeouts and only four walks.
  • Tyler Cloyd, RHP – Split time with the GCL Phillies and Williamsport last season. Did not allow a run with the GCL Phillies in 11 innings and went 5-4 with Williamsport with a 4.57 ERA.
  • Justin De Fratus, RHP – The New York-Penn League leader in innings last season with 83.1, De Fratus also had a 3.67 ERA with 74 strikeouts and only 25 walks.
  • Jacob Diekman, LHP – A BlueClaw in 2008, Diekman returns after a season inwhich he started 19 games.
  • Santos Hernandez, RHP – Spent 2008 in the Independent League and was the league leader with 18 starts, a 3.55 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 111.2 innings.
  • Esmelvin Jimenez, LHP – In 25.1 innings last season with the GCL Phillies, Jimenez went 1-1 with a 2.49 ERA in 25.1 innings. He also struck out 26 hitters over that span.
  • Jason Knapp, RHP – Former second round pick went 3-1 with the GCL Phillies last season with a 2.61 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 31 innings. At 6-foot-5, he is the tallest BlueClaws player this season.
  • BJ Rosenberg, RHP – The BlueClaws potential closer, Rosenberg racked up 10 saves last season with Williamsport last season. He also gave up only four runs in 36 innings and struck out 52 hitters.
  • rothRobert Roth, RHP – Spent 2008 with Williamsport and led the team with seven wins. He also had a 3.39 ERA in 58.1 innings pitched.
  • Jesus Sanchez, RHP – Played catcher with the BlueClaws last season and has converted to pitcher. Has only pitched one professional inning with the GCL Phillies last season.
  • Jon Velaquez, RHP – Signed as a free agent in March, Velaquez pitched at Northwoods University and recorded an 8-2 record and a 2.24 ERA.

Catchers (3)

  • Luis Arzeno – Played 11 games with the GCL Phillies last season and 10 games with Williamsport. Came to Lakewood for four games and had five hits in 14 at-bats.
  • d'arnaudTravis D’Arnaud – Ranked the 7th best prospect overall in the Phillies system. D’ Arnaud hit .309 for Williamsport last season in 48 games and .297 with the BlueClaws in 16 games. He was also the 37th overall selection in the 2007 draft.
  • Sebastian Valle – Spent last seaon with the GCL Phillies and hit .281. He was also among the league leaders in on-base percentage and doubles.

Infielders (6)

  • Harold Garcia – Spent season with the GCL Phillies where he hit .299 with 12 doubles, 5 triples and 5 home runs. He also stole 17 bases in 19 attempts
  • Jeremy Hamilton – A fifth round selection Hamilton hit .327 with the GCL Phillies last season before going to Williamsport for 39 games.
  • HanzawaTroy Hanzawa – A native of Hawaii, Hanzawa was the every day shortstop in Williamsport last year where he hit .297 and only committed 13 errors.
  • Travis Mattair – Hit .254 with the BlueClaws last year in 129 games and 460 at-bats. Mattair is also ranked the 21st best prospect in the BlueClaws organization.
  • James Murphy – A 17th round pick in 2006, Murphy played 31 games in Williamsport last season after playing 28 games with the GCL Phillies where he hit .355.
  • Jesus Villegas – Played the bulk of 2008 with Clearwater where he hit .280 in 48 games. He struck out only 23 times and had 17 walks.

Outfielders (4)

  • Leandro Castro – Played 44 games with the GCL Phillies last season where in 18 of those games he had more than one hit. He finished the season with a .298 average.
  • Zach Collier – A supplemental first round pick in 2008, Collier hit .271 with the GCL Phillies. He is ranked as the 8th best prospect in the Phillies organization.
  • Anthony Gose – A second round pick in 2008, Gose played in 11 games with the GCL Phillies last year where he had a hit in 9 of those games.
  • MyersD’Arby Myers – A BlueClaw in 2008 and a fourth round pick in 2006, Myers looks to regain the form he had with the GCL Phillies in 2006 where he hit .313
