Andre Dawson Elected…& Is On His Way to Lakewood!
Andre Dawson, who we talked about here, has been elected to the Hall of Fame, and 24 days before his July 25th Cooperstown induction, he’ll be in Lakewood signing autographs for BlueClaws fans!
He received 77.9% of the vote (needing 75% for induction) to make it on his ninth try.
As we mentioned earlier, only Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, and Dawson have 400 home runs and 300 stolen bases. Plus, Dawson won eight Gold Glove Awards.
Dawson becomes the fifth Hall of Famer to sign autographs at a BlueClaws game, joining Steve Carlton, Bob Feller, Goose Gossage, and Jim Rice.
On a sad note for us (see here), Bert Blyleven missed by four votes (out of 540). But, he should be a lock to get elected next year. No player who has received 70% of the vote has ever missed out on the Hall of Fame.
But congrats to Andre Dawson, and we’ll see him on July 1st.
