ClawCast: Pitching Coach Steve Schrenk

We sat down with BlueClaws pitching coach Steve Schrenk before the game on Friday.

Some quick comments…

  • On Jarred Cosart (this was before last night’s start): It was the first time I really got to watch him. He’s got a great arm, but needs to use less pitches. He’s young, he’s got a great arm, but he has to learn what works for him. We’d like to see some early outs so we can get him to the 7th and 8th inning.
  • Young guns: All three of these guys have to learn to pitch a full season, under the lights, full crowds. There’s a lot of off-the-field stuff they have to deal with. They’re all great kids, it’s nice to have talent and big arms, but there’s a lot to learn.
  • Biggest adjustments: Every lineup as you get higher has better hitters that have bigger eyes. In the GCL, they swing a lot, they see something in the zone, they’re swinging. Here, they’re a bit more selective. It’s being consistent every night and not trying to do too much.
