Countdown 2010: Events/Concerts

Welcome back to Countdown 2010, our weekly series getting you ready for the 10th season of BlueClaws Baseball. This week…our top ten events/concerts that we’ve hosted here at FirstEnergy Park.

Previously: entertainers, bobblehead giveaways, celebrity visitors

Here goes…

10. Bob Dylan Show…2005, Dylan played the first concert ever at FirstEnergy Park with Willie Nelson. They came back in 2009 with John Mellencamp.

8. FanFest 2009…normally, FanFest is held in mid-February. But last year, we decided to push it back to the first Saturday in March hoping for some great weather. We got it. 60 degrees, free food, a packed house. It was a blast. This year’s FanFest will be held on March 20th. Stay tuned for details.

7. New Jersey Irish Festival…because you don’t see this at a baseball game!

6. First ThunderFest…with Jason Aldean

5. First Wingstock…2006 with Def Leppard and Bryan Adams

4. Breakfast With Buster…we do this every year, a holiday toy drive to benefit the Salvation Army of Ocean County. Buster, Santa, and adoring children. Can’t beat that.

3. Christopher Reeve/Empower New Jersey…At an event called Empower New Jersey, Reeve was here to inspire, and he did just that. He gave a motivational speech to over 1,000 guests, just weeks before his ultimate passing in 2004.

2. ALS Celebrity Waiter Event…This one we do every year, so I’m not going to pick one in particular. But it’s a great event for a great cause, the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia. Every BlueClaws player on the roster that day comes out and serves as a waiter, and tips are collected, plus money is raised through various raffles and auctions. It’s fun and everything goes to a worthy cause. This year’s event is May 26th.

1. Open Practice 2001…April 3rd, 2001. It was the day we unveiled Buster, two days before the first ever BlueClaws game. The BlueClaws name was unveiled February 28, 2000 (we’re approaching the 10 year anniversary of that). But Buster did not debut for another 400 days. At our favorite event.
