Game 102: BlueClaws (62-39) at Delmarva (47-54)

Lakewood goes for four out of five tonight in Salisbury, MD against Delmarva. Last night, they swept a double-header from the Shorebirds, 4-3 in 10 innings in game one and 5-0 behind Julio Rodriguez in game two.

The Keoni De Renne Eastern Tour…IF Keoni De Renne has rejoined the BlueClaws, his third stint with the team this year…He began the season with the BlueClaws before going to Reading for two weeks (where he was the only R-Phil to get a hit off Stephen Strasburg)…He then went to Clearwater, was sent to extended spring training, then was re- activated by Clearwater…In early June, he was sent to Lakewood again, where he finished the half…On June 21st, it was back to Clearwater…In early July, he was sent to Reading and then Lehigh Valley, before re-joining the BlueClaws…Overall he is 24-78 (.308) and has played with four Phillies affiliates this year.

Long Time Coming…Sebastian Valle’s home run on Monday at Delmarva was his first since June 17th, a span of 33 games…He had hit eight in the previous 18 games and now has 10 on the season.

Good Friends and a Strong Bullpen…In this series with Delmarva, the BlueClaws bullpen has thrown a total of 24 innings in the four games (and allowed eight earned runs, five in the ninth inning on Saturday, the game that ended up going 18 innings)…Overall this year, the BlueClaws bullpen is 26-10 with a 2.88 ERA.

He’s Back…After his 24-game hitting streak ended last week, Jiwan James went 5-28, including 0-9 in the 18-inning game on Saturday…Since, he is 6-12 with two hits in each of the last three games and five RBIs in the double-header Monday (he drove in five of Lakewood’s nine runs)…He is batting .350 (35-100) in July after hitting .306 (24-98) in June.


7:32: Give Valle credit. He’s been throwing great in the last month (really since Carlos Ruiz’s visit). Guns down another to end the second.

7:48: That’s 7 strikeouts for Trevor May through three shutout innings. 0-0 to the 4th.

8:00: Batts gets an RBI single on an 0-2 pitch…1-0 Lakewood.

8:23: Two more in the 5th for the BlueClaws, who now lead Delmarva 4-0. Leandro Castro is 2-3 / RBI in 1st game off DL. The other two scored on an E7 by TJ Baxter, losing a Singleton liner in the lights (he picked it up late and the ball ticked off his glove).

8:39: Barnes hits his second HR (first since April 11th). 5-0.

9:00: Four more in the 8th including a 2 run triple from Batts an RBI double from Barnes.

9:17: Trevor May fans 14(!) through 7 innings, tying a franchise record. Also, BlueClaws starters have not allowed an ER since Thursday (31 IP).

9:49: Final was 9-0. Lakewood now 24-games over .500 for the first time this year.
