KAN: RHP Justin Collup (0-1, 9.00)

Leading the Way…While the BlueClaws do not have a hitter in the league’s top ten in batting average, they lead the league in hitting at .289. Lakewood has five regulars hitting over .300: Barnes .333, Buschini .315, Castro .314, Ruf .314, Villar .306.

On Shreve…Shreve, 22, makes his first professional start and just his second professional appearance after he debuted with Lakewood Monday night in Greensboro…Shreve was a 6th round pick in 2008 a month after having Tommy John Surgery. He was a 7th round pick of the Reds in 2007 but chose not to sign…His TJ Surgery forced him to miss both the 2008 and 2009 seasons and he began 2010 in extended spring training…Shreve had committed to Arkansas before signing with the Phillies after the draft…He was one of the highest ranked JUCO prospects before having surgery.

6:19: A beautiful evening. Just back from the unveiling of a Dale Earnhardt car which will be a permanent fixture here at the Cannon.

7:29: Lakewood gets a run. Ruf single, Buschini gets him in with an RBI 5-3 groundout. Shreve had a 9 pitch 1-2-3 first.

7:39: Shreve gives up a bloop double to score a run in the 2nd. 1-1 to the 3rd.

7:46: That’s a 10 game hitting streak for Barnes, RBI single to score James, who had singled earlier in the inning. 2-1 Lakewood.

8:28: Shreve pitches around a leadoff single in the 5th and is through five at just 62 pitches having allowed two hits. Lakewood up 2-1. 6-10 Garrett Johnson is now in for Kannapolis.

8:39: Somehow Leandro Castro, who danced on the grass outside the 3B line while caught in a rundown, was not called out, but Lakewood will take it. They get another run on a Santana FC groundout. 4-1 bottom 6. That’s the third inning in the first two games of the series that the BlueClaws have scored in without a hit.

8:44: Lugo replaces Shreve w/ one out in the 6th. 5.1 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K, one run and is responsible for a runner at first.

8:50: Lugo retires his three. Shreve gives up one run in his first professional start and is eligible for the win.

9:27: Zeid on for the save. 4-1 in the 9th.

9:43: No problem for Zeid, who now has three saves. Congrats to Colby Shreve, who earns the win in his first professional start. 4-1 was the final, and that’s four in a row for the BlueClaws.
