Game 23: BlueClaws (13-9) at Kannapolis (9-13)

Welcome back to the Cannon here in Kannapolis for game three of this four game series. Lakewood has won four in a row and goes for number five with Matt Way on the mound tonight.

Back at the Scene of the Crime…Matt Way returns to Kannapolis where he won game one of the 2009 South Atlantic League Division Series…Way gave up just one run over seven innings in a 4-2 BlueClaws win to open the playoffs…Tonight’s Kannapolis starter, Joseph Serafin, pitched game two of that series, allowing six runs over 3.2 innings in a 9-0 series-clinching win for Lakewood.

First Things First…In the last turn through the rotation, both Brody Colvin and Colby Shreve earned their first professional victories, Colvin in his fifth professional start and Shreve in his first. Earlier this week, Josh Zeid earned his first professional save, and now has three.

With a Win…The BlueClaws would win their fifth game in a row, their longest streak of the season. Last year’s season long win streak was five (twice)…This is Lakewood’s second four-game winning streak of 2010.

Good Friends and a Strong Bullpen…Over Lakewood’s current four-game winning streak, BlueClaws relievers have allowed just allowed just three runs over 12.2 innings pitched…Josh Zeid and Jordan Ellis have each thrown three shutout innings in that streak.

5:10: It is another beautiful evening here in Kannapolis. Back later. Colby Shreve on the pre-game.

7:16: Kannapolis has two bunt singles, one erased on a DP and Valle throws the other, Kyle Colligan, who had been 5-5 on the bases, out stealing second.

7:26: HR for Darin Ruf, a monster shot over the left field wall. 1-0 Lakewood.

8:13: Castro just went deep. 2-1 Lakewood bottom of the 5th.

8:31: Not Way’s night, as he leaves down 5-2 after giving up four runs w/ in the 5th. 4.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K. He is responsible for one runner on first. Chad Poe is the new pitcher.

8:54: Hewitt had to leave the game with an injury in the 6th inning, tripped in the left field corner tracking what would be a Daniel Wagner triple. Not sure if he got his foot caught in the ground, but he limped off the field and back to the locker room under his own power.

8:55: By the way Kannapolis has scored seven runs in the last three innings and Lakewood’s four game win streak in trouble, down 7-2 in the 7th.

9:37: Ho-hum game and Lakewood falls 7-3. Four game win streak comes to an end.
