LAK: RHP Brody Colvin (2-5, 6.07)
DEL: LHP Nathan Moreau (0-2, 3.77)
With a Win…The BlueClaws would win their third straight game (their fourth win streak of at least three games this season)…Lakewood trails Hickory by 3.5 games in the SAL Northern Division.
Zeid’s Struggles…After allowing two earned runs over his first 22 innings this year, Josh Zeid has given up eight earned runs (and 10 runs total) over his last six innings pitched (two blown saves)…He gave up a three-run home run to Steve Souza on Wednesday to give Hagerstown an 8-7 lead…Overall, he has allowed runs in four of his last five appearances.
Ellis’ Emergence…Jordan Ellis has allowed just two earned runs in his last 16.2 innings after giving up seven in his first 7.2 innings…Ellis, who pitched three days in a row (5/18 – 5/20, first BlueClaws pitcher to do that this year), has not allowed a run in his last six appearances (9.2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K)…He was a 28th round pick out of Villanova in 2008.
Mother’s Day Malaise…Since going 0-8 on Mother’s Day in a 15-inning win over Savannah, Leandro Castro is 11-74. His average has dropped from .302 down to .242, its lowest point of the season (not including an 0-3 on Opening Day).
7:15: 60s and overcast as we get going here in Salisbury, MD.
7:21: 1-2-3 first for Colvin included another great running catch into left center for Jiwan James.
7:55: Colvin goes to a change-up to get Brian Conley swining to end the 3rd (w/ runners on 2nd and 3rd). He’s fanned Conley (.318) twice. 0-0.
8:24: Conley gets Colvin the next time, a two-run double. Birds up 2-0 going to the 6th, with lefty Moreau having retired 13 BlueClaws in a row. In fact, Lakewood’s only hit is a bunt single by Castro in the top of the first.
8:42: 91 pitches for Colvin through 6, probably done…four hits, two runs and six Ks…Moreau out after six shutout for Delmarva on just one hit and a walk.
8:53: Lakewood with one hit through seven.
9:23: And that’s that. One hit for Lakewood. Lowest output of the season obviously, second time they’ve been shutout. Little did Leandro Castro know when he reached on a bunt single in the first that it would be the only BlueClaws hit of the evening.
