Game 50: BlueClaws (26-23) at Delmarva (22-28)
Welcome back to Salisbury, MD and Perdue Stadium as Lakewood looks to end a two-game losing streak, having dropped the first two games here 2-0 and 8-4.
Game Notes
Listen Live (at 1:50)
LAK: LHP Matt Way (3-4, 4.50)
DEL: RHP Jesse Beal (3-2, 2.44)
And some notes…
Defending the Three…The BlueClaws are 5-1 this year after a two-game losing streak and have only lost three games in a row once this year (April 30 – May 3)…May 2nd was a scheduled off-day. They have lost two games in a row entering play today.
If Not for Singleton…Without Jonathan Singleton’s 15-34 over the last 10 games, the BlueClaws would be hitting .216 as a team (they are hitting .240)…In the last ten games, the BlueClaws have scored 48 runs…Adam Buschini is 7-38, Jiwan James 7-37, Anthony Hewitt 4-30, Domingo Santana is 3-28 and Leandro Castro 7-39.
2:16: Two hits for James and Villar to start and Castro drives James in with a 6-3 groundout. Villar, however, was at 3rd with one out and didn’t score.
2:26: Way, by the way, has allowed just six ER in his last 25 innings after giving up 19 in his first 25 innings this year. He had a 1-2-3 first.
2:40: Spoke too soon. Two runs on three hits for Delmarva. 2-1 Birds.
2:50: HR for Jiwan James was his first since April 9th.
3:16: Way’s at 69 through four innings. Trailing 3-2.
3:42: 6 innings and 3 runs for Way, who walked three, a career high. That he has never walked more than two in a start speaks more to his pinpoint control over his career rather than a poor outing today.
3:49: Wertz in for the 7th…Lakewood just isn’t hitting. They’re 1-15 since James’ home run in the 3rd. Great game though for Jesse Beal, who gets through 7 allowing two runs on four hits.
4:12: Where did that come from? Two out and nobody on in the 8th, Villar doubles, Castro doubles to tie it, and Singleton’s RBI single makes it 4-3 Lakewood.
4:17: Singleton starts a 3-6-1 DP on a nice pick of a two-hopper to end the 8th. 4-3 to the 9th.
4;28: Ellis on for the save. 4-3, would be his second save of the year and ninth of his career.
4:42: And that’s that. Ellis gets the save and Lakewood steals one 4-3. Now 6-1 after a two-game losing streak this season.
