LAK: RHP Julio Rodriguez (0-0, 4.91)

Some nuggets…

Still Haven’t Lost a Series…the BlueClaws still have not lost a series this year (2-0-9). This does not include the four-game series with Hagerstown from last week that will be completed (suspended game) tomorrow. They need to win today to avoid losing their first series of the season.

Off to a Slow Start…the BlueClaws are 16-95 (.168) on the trip…They were 11-87 before the string of three-straight hits to open the 8th inning on Sunday.

Springboard?…Jiwan James was 3-23 before hits in his first two at bats on Sunday, including his second home run of the season (and third of his career)…James’ first home run came on April 9th…Sebastian Valle hit his second home run of the year on Saturday night, and his first was on April 14th…Currently, the longest home run drought on the team belongs to Jeremy Barnes (April 11th).

New Closer…Jordan Ellis has allowed just two earned runs in his last 17.2 innings after giving up seven in his first 7.2 innings…Ellis, who pitched three days in a row (5/18 – 5/20, first BlueClaws pitcher to do that this year), has not allowed a run in his last seven appearances (10.2 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 3 K)…He was a 28th round pick out of Villanova in 2008.

2:11: Jiwan James thrown out trying to score from 3rd on a fly ball to center by Leandro Castro.

2:27: Valle just destroyed one, his 3rd HR of the year, cleared the LF wall by about 30 feet and hit the left-center field scoreboard. 2nd HR of the series, 2-0 BlueClaws.

2:49: Two more baserunning errors waste two hits to start the third. 2-0 BlueClaws.

3:11: Six strikeouts and six ground outs for Rodriguez (two hits, two walks) through four shutout.

3:26: Ohlman hits a wind blown home run to make it 2-1. Zeid was throwing in the pen. Rodriguez has 85 pitches so far through 5. We’ll see if he comes out for the 5th.

3:43: Valle a 2-run double. He’s back. Castro hits his 4th HR of the year. 5-1.

3:51: And Domingo Santana hits his 3rd home run of the year. 8-1 Lakewood. Santana’s 1st home run since April 23rd.

4:37: Lakewood adds 5 more in the 8th. The top seven hitters all have multiple hits in this game for Lakewood. Singleton is now 27-63 and Castro is 3-5 with a home run, 2B and 2 RBIs. 13-2.

5:16: Final was 14-3, 21 hits is a 9-inning franchise record.
