Prospect Battle Tonight
Tonight should be a fun game at FirstEnergy Park. Two top prospects on the hill for each side: Jarred Cosart (8th, Phillies) and Chad James (3rd, Marlins)…
Lakewood:
RHP Jarred Cosart
GCL: 2-2, 2.22, 24.1 IP, 12 H, 7 BB, 25 K
4/9 at ASH (W): 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R/ER, 1 BB, 7 K
4/14 at HAG (W): 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Acquired: 38th round pick, 2008
League City, Texas
Cosart, 19, makes his third start of the
season after pitching last year with the GCL
Phillies…Drafted in 2008, he signed with
the Phillies over a commitment to
Missouri…He is the 8th ranked prospect in
the system according to Baseball America…
Phillies Assistant GM Chuck LaMar on
Cosart (via CSNPhilly.com): “Arm speed,
acceleration, looseness of the wrist. If you
could teach that, you’d make a lot of
money. In the old days, we used to call it
buggy-whip. With some kids, the ball just
comes out of the hand easier and with
more life. This is one of those guys. He
might be our most improved minor-league
pitching prospect from this time a year
ago.”
Greensboro:
LHP Chad James
4/9 vs AUG (L): 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R/1ER, 3 BB, 4 K
4/14 vs DEL (L): 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Acquired: 1st round pick (18th), 2009
Yukon, Oklahoma
James, 19, makes his third start as a
professional tonight for Greensboro…The
18th overall selection in the draft last year,
James had signed a letter of intent at
Oklahoma State before signing at the
deadline with Florida…He has lasted 4.1
innings in each of his first two starts and is
ranked 3rd in the system by Baseball
America…His brother, Justin, was a 5th
round pick of the Blue Jays in 2003…Went
to the same high school as Garth Brooks.
