Milestone Wednesday Win

trubyblogThe BlueClaws scored four runs in the 9th inning (and one in the 8th) to come back and beat Greensboro 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon at NewBridge Bank Park. A couple of quick notes from the just completed ballgame:

  • Lakewood’s Jim Murphy hit a 1st inning home run and in the process became the franchise all-time home run leader (with 23), breaking a tie with Juan Richardson (22) of 2011. Murphy’s home run was his 9th of the season.
  • Trailing 5-2 going to the 8th inning, Lakewood got one then and then four in the ninth. Edgar Duran tied the game with a SAC fly to score Aaron Altherr. Then, Stephen Batts stole 2nd with two outs, just the fourth steal of his career. He scored on Carlos Perdomo’s RBI single.
  • Batts was in a 1-29 slump entering the 8th inning and in his last two at bats, had two hits, a double, scored twice, and stole a base, the fourth of his career.
  • Tyler Kniggle threw three scoreless innings of relief, including getting Joduban Morales to ground into a game-ending 4-6-3 double play. He earned his first professional win.
  • And, Chris Truby (pictured), Lakewood’s manager, won his 100th game as a minor league manager. He had 85 wins the last two years with Williamsport and this was Lakewood’s 15th of 2011.

Here’s the box score.

And a Happy Birthday to David Buchanan, Lakewood starter, who turns 22 today.

Now that is a nice afternoon.
