(UPDATED: Today is Saturday, not Sunday)
The first two days of the series in West Virginia have not gone exactly as planned for the BlueClaws: entering on a three-game winning streak, they’ve lost the first two games having been outscored 21-10 in the process.
It’s marked the first time since April of 2010 that the BlueClaws have allowed ten runs in back to back games. The BlueClaws did, however, hit two home runs in last night’s game, one by Cameron Rupp (who has now hit safely in 21 of 24 and is batting .372 in that stretch) and another by Jim Murphy, which leads us to:
One to Go…Jim Murphy homered on Friday and now with 21 home runs on the season, is just one away from tying the single-season franchise record set in 2001 by Juan Richardson…His total is the second highest in franchise history, breaking a tie with Ryan Howard, who hit 19 home runs in the 2002 season…Murphy has now hit 35 home runs as a BlueClaw (also the most in franchise history), including 14 in 2009…He tied for the league lead with Asheville’s Corey Dickerson.
Needing a Win…The BlueClaws need a win to avoid a three-game losing streak…It would be Lakewood’s 6th three-game losing streak of the season and first of the second half…Their last three-game losing streak was June 16-23 (four games, the last three of the first half against West Virginia and the first game of the second half against Delmarva).
Ervis Manzanillo (7-5, 4.79) on the mound for Lakewood and here are the game notes. First pitch at 7:05.
