Congratulations to BlueClaws 1B Chris Duffy and RHP Kenny Giles, who were both promoted to Clearwater.
Duffy hit .384-11-56 with the BlueClaws in 60 games, including .401-10-43 in the second half, which led
the league in all three categories during that period. He hit a 2-home run game on July 16th, the only one by a BlueClaw this year. On Wednesday at Hagerstown, Duffy went 5-6, tying a franchise record with five hits with six other BlueClaws, last set by Jiwan James in 2010. In July alone he had two three-hit games, two four-hit games, and a five-hit game.
“The BlueClaws were good to me,” he said. “I want to say thank you to the fans, I love the fans, I want to wish everybody the best.” – Read more here from APP.com.
Giles went 3-3, 3.61 with five saves and had really picked it up lately. In his last six outings, he threw 11 innings and allowed just two runs on five hits with 22 strikeouts. He was a 7th round pick in 2011 from Yavapai Community College.
Good luck to both players!
Who’s Here? The BlueClaws added two new players to the roster, IF William Carmona and RHP Chris Nichols. Both names might be familiar for different reasons.
Carmona was an 11th round pick this year from Stony Brook, where he helped the Seawolves reach the College World Series. The Hempsted, NY native hit .348 with the GCL Phillies before his promotion, including a grand slam on Wednesday.
Nichols is the son of Rod Nichols, Lakewood’s original pitching coach in 2001 and currently the pitching coach with Lehigh Valley. Between the GCL Phillies and Williamsport, Nichols was 3-0, 3.10 with 14 Ks and 1 walk in 20.1 innings pitched.
