Another photo gallery…this one from our Breakfast with Buster Holiday Food and Toy Drive on Saturday. The BlueClaws and Salvation Army of Ocean County thank everyone for their support and for braving the snow, making it out to donate.

Also a special thanks to Manhattan Bagel of Brick for providing free bagels for everyone at the event.

Bowling Team Names

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

bowlingleague1Last week we asked our Twitter family for some BlueClaws bowling team names. We got some good ones, but our favorites were Alley Claws and Pinchy’s Pin Busters. Ben Hill of MiLB.com threw in a few generic bowling team names, like:

The Hook-y Leagues
The Liberal Strike Zones
Hall of Framers
Bowl Durham
Slow Rollers
The Split-chell Report

You have any you want to add? Leave them in the comments section. More on the bowling league, to be held beginning next month at The Lanes at Sea Girt below the fold.

That, however, is all we have right now. We’ll certainly keep you posted. If you want more information, utilize the comments section below.

Chatting with the Winner

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

choosechampweb1Earlier today, we had a chance to talk with Marc Rosenthal, a paralegal from Princeton, New Jersey and winner of Choose Your Champ, the BlueClaws/Trenton Thunder World Series prediction contest.

Over 1,000 entered, sending in their Phillies/Yankees prediction (winner, number of games, and MVP). No one predicted all three, so everyone that had the Yankees and then either six games or Hideki Matsui, was entered into a drawing.

“I was shocked,” said Rosenthal, who chose to go to Opening Day at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, a trip that will be financed by the BlueClaws (since the Phillies lost the World Series).

He predicted Yankees in 6, but had CC Sabathia as the series MVP.

“I’ve been to Citizens Bank Park but I have never been to the new Yankee Stadium,” he said.

A native New Yorker and Mets fan, Rosenthal “stayed neutral” during the World Series. “There were too many Yankee fans and Phillies fans in our office.” He decided to anger as few people as possible.

“Being from New York, I never really had anything against the Yankees,” he added. “But the Phillies, they’re the Mets’ natural rival.”

“Choose Your Champ” Winner

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

You may remember our Choose Your Champ contest that the BlueClaws did with the Trenton Thunder. We asked fans to email in a World Series prediction (winner, number of games, and MVP) with the winner receiving a trip to Opening Day in Philly or the Bronx, paid for by the BlueClaws (if the Yankees won, which they did) or by the Thunder (had the Phillies won)…Without further adieu…

OceanFirst’s Home Runs for Heroes Final Tally

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

homerunsforheroes2Wednesday at FirstEnergy Park, we’ll have a special check presentation ceremony from OceanFirst Foundation as we wrap up year one of Home Runs for Heroes, a unique program which tied local military-based charities to home runs from BlueClaws players.

Every time a BlueClaws player hit a home run at FirstEnergy Park this year, OceanFirst Foundation made a donation of $1,000 to a local military-based non-profit. Final donation tallies below:

Position Organization Amount
C Catholic Charities, Trenton Diocese $3,000
1B American Recreational Military Services $9,000
2B VetGroup $2,000
3B Navy/Marine Relief Society – Earle $2,000
SS Navy/Marine Relief Society – Lakehurst $1,000
LF Army Emergency Relief – Fort Monmouth $3,000
CF National Guard Family Readiness Council $1,000
RF American Red Cross $1,000
DH Army Emergency Relief – Fort Dix $2,000

ARMS thanks Jim Murphy for hitting seven home runs at home this year and propelling them to the win. Their other two home runs were off the bat of Jeremy Hamilton.

One Day Until Roof-Man

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Tomorrow, the Roof-man, Ryan Ragan (in his other life he is the COO of Central Jersey Blood Center), heads to the roof of FirstEnergy Park for his week of fun while we collect blood in front of the ballpark.

This time of year, after the high-traffic (and high blood-demand) summer, the supply is usually low, not only because the reserves were tapped, but also because the summer is the lowest blood collection point of the year. That makes what we’re trying to do both cool and important.

“Living on the roof for a week,” said Ragan, “pales in comparison to what some of these kids have to do on a weekly basis. So it’s nothing for me, and important to collect this blood.”

Prizes raffled off throughout the week include a Dr. J autographed jersey, BlueClaws concert tickets, a Bushel of BlueClaws ticket package, and much more (see here).

Hope to see you out here this week (10a – 8p)…ALL DONORS GET A FREE TICKET TO THE BLUECLAWS FIRST PLAYOFF GAME ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH, AND THE CHANCE TO TAKE PART IN A PRE-GAME PARADE!
