Young, So What…The BlueClaws are 21-12 on the road this year, the best road record in the league, despite being one of the youngest teams in the SAL.

Back on the Road…Lakewood plays just their 5th and 6th road games since June 7th as they officially open an eight-game road trip with today’s double-header. It’s also Lakewood’s first road game since clinching the SAL Northern Division first-half title in June 18th in Hagerstown.

3:37: Weather should be fine today. It’s cloudy but the tarp is off the field and we expect to be OK the rest of the day. Tommorrow and Tuesday, the weather looks absolutely perfect.

Ballestas Named Pitcher of the Week

Monday, June 29th, 2009

In his debut in Lakewood, Freddy Ballestas made a strong impression throughout the South Atlantic League. Ballestas started the resumed portion of a suspended game on Saturday where he came in to start the fourth inning. He went five innings, allowed just two hits, no walks, while striking out eight batters. He did not allow a run in the no decision. By virtue of that performance, Ballestas was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week that ran from June 22-28th. Ballestas, recently promoted from Williamsport, will be a key member of the BlueClaws bullpen in the second half of the season.

Jason Knapp was the only other BlueClaws player this season to be named as the Pitcher of the Week in the SAL after his 7-inning 14k performance.

Jonathan Pettibone, of the Willaimsport Crosscutters, was named as the New-York Penn League Pitcher of the Week, as he went 11 innings of shutout baseball with 12 strikeouts and three walks.
