We broke down the numbers at the end of the season…Almost eight miles of hot dogs given away by the BlueClaws as part of the Kids Eat Free, at every game, promotion done in 2009. This one-of-a-kind promotion was recognized recently by Ballpark Digest as its 2009 Promotion of the Year!

Kids Eat Free in Lakewood gave out the equivilents of the following:
- In hot dogs, 7.95 miles, or 24 laps around the FirstEnergy Park concourse, four trips across Midtown Manhattan, 14.5 trips up and down the Willis Tower
- If he ate at the same rate, it would take Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champ Joey Chestnut 7 days, 8 hours, 26 minutes to reach teh 71,000+ hot dogs
- In potato chips, the equivilent of 28,044 bobblehead dolls or 8.5 Volkswagon Beetles
- In liquid (soda), enough to water the average lawn for 65 hours

The final Kids Eat Free number in 2009 was 71,988, which translates into a cool 7.95 miles worth of hot dogs given out as part of the one-of-a-kind program. Let’s play around with numbers…
With the 7,700+ that came out to Monday’s BlueClaws game, the BlueClaws clinched their 9th straight South Atlantic League attendance title. The BlueClaws have, to date, drawn 415,000 fans in 2009 with two regular season home games remaining, and Greensboro, out of home games, finishes up at 406,549.

As we kick off the second half, let’s look back at Kids Eat Free from the first. The BlueClaws gave out over 30,000 hot dogs, bags of chips, and a soda. From a hot dog standpoint, it’s enough to go three times across mid-town Manhattan. But here’s a better way to look at it.
